There are moments in life that change a family forever.
For one of our own here at Howcroft’s Funeral Services, that moment came on 22nd August 2024 when Lucy and her husband Robert experienced the unimaginable loss of their beautiful daughter, Pippa, who was sadly born sleeping at 39 weeks.
No words can truly explain the heartbreak of losing a child. It is a grief no parent should ever have to face.

But during the darkest moment of their lives, a charity called 4Louis provided something incredibly precious – comfort, compassion and memories that Lucy and Robert will treasure forever.
When Pippa was born, they were given a 4Louis memory box by the hospital. Inside were keepsakes and carefully chosen items that allowed them to create lasting memories with their daughter during the short time they had together. Handprints, footprints, photographs and tiny mementos that now hold immeasurable meaning.
Those memories cannot take the pain away, but they give grieving families something priceless to hold onto.
That is why on Sunday 26th July 2026, The Howcroft’s Hurricanes – Vicki, Nigel, Michael, Lucy, Rosie and Sally – will be taking on the Tough Mudder challenge to raise money for 4Louis and help support other families walking this heartbreaking path.
Why 4Louis Matters
4Louis provides memory boxes and bereavement support items free of charge to hospitals across the UK for families affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss.
At a time when parents are experiencing unimaginable shock and heartbreak, these memory boxes help create precious moments that may otherwise be lost forever.
Every box provided by 4Louis is funded through donations.
Every donation made helps another family receive support, compassion and treasured memories when they need them most.
Taking On Tough Mudder for Pippa
Anyone who has seen a Tough Mudder event knows it is no ordinary challenge.
Mud. Ice. Obstacles. Hills. Crawling. Climbing. Teamwork. Determination. Probably a few aches and pains the next morning too.
But for Team Howcroft’s Hurricanes, this challenge is about something far bigger than crossing a finish line.
It is about remembering Pippa.
It is about standing beside Lucy and Robert.
It is about helping other parents who will sadly face the same devastating loss.
And it is about turning heartbreak into something that can help others.

What The Team Will Be Facing
This is not your average Sunday morning fundraiser.
On 26th July 2026, The Howcroft’s Hurricanes will take on one of the toughest and muddiest endurance events in the country – Tough Mudder Yorkshire 2026 at Broughton Hall in Yorkshire.
Set amongst woodland trails, steep hills and thick Yorkshire mud, the course is designed to push people to their physical and mental limits. Competitors crawl through mud, climb over obstacles, battle ice-cold water, and face challenge after challenge across a brutal 5K course.
And they will be doing it together.
Because Tough Mudder is built around teamwork. Participants are expected to help each other through the course, lift each other over obstacles and keep going when exhaustion starts to take over.
That spirit of togetherness is one of the reasons this challenge felt so meaningful for the team.
The event itself describes Tough Mudder as more than just a race. It is designed to test strength, stamina, resilience and mental grit. From deep mud and punishing hills to obstacles with names that sound slightly terrifying, this is about digging deep and refusing to give up.
There will no doubt be aching muscles, bruises, soaked clothes and moments where they question whose idea this was in the first place.
But every obstacle conquered and every muddy mile completed is being done for something far more important.
For Pippa.
And for families who may one day rely on the same support that Lucy and Robert received from 4Louis during the darkest days of their lives.
How You Can Help
We would love your support in helping the team raise as much money as possible for 4Louis.
Whether you can donate £2, £20 or simply share the fundraiser, every single contribution makes a difference.
Because behind every donation is another family who may receive a memory box filled with love and care during the worst moment of their lives.
Together, we can help ensure no grieving parent feels alone.
Together, we can honour Pippa’s memory.
And together, we can help 4Louis continue the incredible work they do for families across the UK.
Thank you for your kindness, support and generosity.
